Day on the Hill, February 25, 2020

Preamble
For over 90 years, BPW has been leading advocate of women rights in the workplace. Our organization has been instrumental in the passage of several bills both at the state and national level.

Annually our organization sets goals and activities for this event to coincide with our legislative platform.

Equal Pay Day, March 31, 2020

Picture
Each year, BPW/TN advocates Equal Pay Day events to bring attention to our number one issue - Pay Equity. Due to the gender wage gap, nationally women earn 77 cents to each dollar paid to male counterparts. Over a working lifetime, this wage disparity costs the average American woman an estimated $500,000. April is symbolic of the time in the year that a woman must work to earn the wages paid to a man in the previous year. Below are some helpful tools and ideas to assist you in planning a successful Equal Pay Day event.

Equal Pay Day Ideas for Local Organizations
  • Provide a fact Sheet on Equal Pay Day to all members in your local organization.
  • Issue a Press Release, noting your planned activities.
  • Select a member to do a presentation on Equal Pay Day during your next meeting and to discuss your chapter’s efforts to communicate this in your community.
  • Ask everyone in your chapter to wear red on Equal Pay Day to symbolize women still being “in the red” when it comes to pay equity.
  • Host a mixer (alone or with other women’s groups in your area) for Equal Pay Day, using the “Unhappy Hour” theme.
  • Create/distribute post cards (or flyers) with Equal Pay facts on one side & information about your BPW chapter on the other (hand out with a mini Pay Day candy bars) during an upcoming event or at a set location on Equal Pay Day..
The calendar below contains local and state wide events.  For meeting information visit our Local Organizations Page.
